USS Nightmare is full of frightful sights. You’ll need a sedative or therapy after you’re finished with the haunt. The Mitchell Museum is the first scene you’ll enter. This is an action packed room where there’s been a paranormal disturbance. CGI Portraits come alive, lights sway back and fourth, a shrunken head mysterious moves and much more. The Mitchell Museum sets the tone for the rest of the attraction and it does an excellent job at that.
Do you have the serum and are you up for the challenge to become a super solider? The vampire’s lair is chock full of blood suckers who want to know your blood type. There are plenty of great characters at USS Nightmare. A drunken seaman swears that he didn’t sink the boat. He blames the Lady in Red. You’ll meet her later. This scantily clad woman is not to be trusted. This haunt has one of the better laser swamps we experience. It features metal pools you must navigate around and an unspeakable creature. Is it an alien or some type of experiment gone wrong?
The laboratory will send chills down your spine. They’re trying to create a new crew member and your parts would be perfect. USS Nightmare features classic rooms like a doll room, hospital and a bathroom with a shocking surprise. The hospital features some victims who’ve seen better days. One has his mouth busted open and it appears that he has an acute case of rabies. You might be tempted to get something to eat while aboard the ship. The kitchen has a buffet that’s full of delicious delicacies. The pots and pans mysteriously move by themselves.
USS Nightmare has some has a lot of eye candy and plenty of props that are perfect for the scenes they accompany. You might have seen the Impaler at another haunt, but USS Nightmare makes him a star. This 13 foot monster is perfectly showcased behind netting. He’s hungry and ferociously roars as he holds the remains from one of his victims. The crew call him fluffy. You’ll meet him again on the balcony where you’ll be fed to this behemoth. USS Nightmare features many props that will send you crying for mama. This includes hanging fish, a woman getting the blood drained out of her, an electric chair, a sand worm in a barrel and much more. A boy dressed as a bunny rabbit holding a candy pale rips his mask off to reveal a corpse face
USS Nightmare has one of the best Vortex Tunnels. It’s quite unique because the railings tilt and it features a mirror at the end. You’ll go around and around as you’re tormented by clowns. The crash simulator is like a Hellevator on steroids. Watch the boat sway back, fourth, up and down as it crashes to the bottom of the river. There’s lights, sound and more. Learn the dark history of USS Nightmare as well. A crazed crew member gets up close and personal. He’s so close that you can smell his breath. This character is played by the talented Brady Hatmaker.
The Chapel was a new scene last season and it’s just as good this year. Confess your sins and watch out for the grim reaper that flies out of a portrait. This classic animatronic has been at USS Nightmare for many many years and it’s one of my favorites. Another favorite of mine is the 7ft tall Mutant. This Sci-Fi creature is a savage. He’ll thrash back and forth. Don’t let him escape or else. The Haunted Forest was quite active the night we toured USS Nightmare. A violent thunder storm was taking place. Watch out for the killer werewolf or the man hiding behind a bush.

There were a few scenes that weren’t too effective. The clown maze could have been scarier and the doll room was more intense in previous years. But besides that, we don’t have many complaints. This is a solid haunted attraction that most people are going to really enjoy.
Total tour time was 26 minutes making it one of the longest haunts we tour all season. We highly recommend the RIP Experience which is a special version of USS Nightmare. You’ll be given a light up necklace that alerts actors that you are part of the RIP Experience. Areas of the boat that aren’t usually available to the public are opened up. It’s like a haunt mixed with elements of an escape room. You’ll be touched, eat certain things, and play games. It took us nearly 50 minutes to complete the RIP Experience. It’s unlike anything else you’ll experience.
General Admission is $27-$37, Fast Pass is $39-$58 and Front of the Line is $56-$78. Add $15 more to any ticket for the RIP Experience. Captain’s Extreme Tour takes place on November 6th and 7th. It features adult situations, explicit language, extreme special effects and more. It’s $38-$78. Lights on Matinee starts at $10. RIP Date Night Package is $161 – $206 and a season pass is $103. Group prices vary. Concessions are available when you exit. The are snacks, drinks, T-Shirts and you can purchase your group photo that was taken before getting in line. There’s a I Survived USS Nightmare photo-op station for those who want their picture taken.
Something was very different about USS Nightmare this season, but we couldn’t put our finger on it. We’re not going to give it away, but you might notice. USS Nightmare has been scaring scare seekers since 1993. 2026 marks their 34th season. They’ve grown a lot over the years to say the least. There’s just something truly special about a haunted steamboat and it feels haunted.
