Sandyland Acres Haunted Hayride (Petersburg, KY)
“Michael vs Jason, the Match of the Century!”
By Noah Wullkotte: Visited on 10/9/26
Flames from a large silo shoot high in to the air. Sandyland Acres Haunted Hayride is pretty unique because it’s one of the few haunted hayrides we’ve been to that focuses a lot on horror movies. The first movie you’ll encounter is Motel Hell from 1980. The O in the sign Motel Hello flashes. They need victims to feed the soil to help with their homemade sausage. The projected image of a skeletons decorates the side of a building.
Sandyland Acres Haunted Hayride is quite spooky and is a great attraction for the Halloween season. There are various chase scenes you’ll encounter. My favorite is the classic Headless Horseman. Watch a talented rider gallop alongside the wagon as people watch in wonder. Sandyland Acres has some of the best high speed chases. A big rig with skeletons attached to it gets close to the wagon as people scream. Flames shoot into the air as the skeletons are lit up.
Sandyland Acres features many fright flicks. You’ll meet Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Leatherface and others. These exciting scenes are sure to entertain horror movie buffs and even those who aren’t familiar with them. Leatherface revs up his chainsaw and does his classic chainsaw dance as he spins around and around. Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers have a face off to see who is the best horror icon. Jason comes out victorious as the shape is shoved into some fencing. The crowd went wild.
You’ll enter a barn at the end of your haunted journey. This section of the haunt features the best acting and some very convincing victims. A poor girl with a reverse bear trap attached to her head screams bloody murder as she’s tortured. This is from the 2004 movie Saw. The makers of Sandyland Acres Haunted Hayride love their horror movies. The scene from the 1996 slasher movie Scream was great and Ghostface was very tall. Many of the characters at Sandyland Acres are large in size and intimidating.
The Terrifier 3 reenactment features snow and crazed Art the Clown who is dressed as Santa Claus. He proceeds to honk his horn as he hops aboard the wagon. Be sure to keep your feet pressed to the inside of the wagon because many of the actors get up close and personal. You don’t want them tripping over your feet. They aren’t afraid of making their presence known. Sandyland Acres showcases many scenes such as a graveyard. Adding a couple actors portraying zombies would make the scene more memorable. A group of killer cannibals would like a bite or two. One shoots his shotgun as the sound echoes throughout the farm. The dark carnival could be scarier. It just seemed to be lacking in terms of general clown terror. The audio in some of the scenes could also be louder.
Total tour time was 18 minutes, but could be longer depending on your interaction with the various characters. After we we survived the hayride, it was time to get in line for Farmers Revenge. It’s Sandyland Acres’ old school haunted barn. Skeletons climb the barn illuminated with green lights. There are plenty of spooky props that decorate the outside, even a skeleton that pukes into a toxic barrel. A movie screen is attached to the side of the barn and shows people entering its dark maze.
You’ll experience scenes such as a mine shaft, disgusting dining room, jungle, the aforementioned dark maze and much more. Farmers Revenge has a great vortex tunnel. Go around and around and hold on for your dear life. This is unfortunately a short attraction lasting just 5 minutes. But it’s fun while it lasts. Could the acting and set design be improved? Yes, it absolutely could. Farmers Revenge always reminds me of a low budget Jaycees Haunt from years past. It’s not as intense as the Haunted Hayride, but it’s very fun.
You might be starving after a night of haunting and Sandyland Acres has just what you’re looking for. Their Haunted Snack Shop offers hot dogs, pretzels & cheese, walking tacos, brownies, popcorn, M & Ms, pop and more. The prices are reasonable as well. The Haunted Gift Shop sells haunted clown dolls, I Survived Sandyland Acres shirts, lamps and more. The dolls were selling like hot cakes. There are different photo-op stations throughout the farm. My favorite is the giant electric chair that features a large skeleton and plenty of fog.
It’s the 21st year for Sandyland Acres and they show no signs of slowing down. Both haunts are great for families and friends alike. General admission for the Haunted Hayride is $20 and $15 for Farmers Revenge. We recommend that you purchase a combo ticket for $30 which saves you five bucks. It’s cash only and parking is free and plentiful.
