“10 Years of Farm Fresh Fear”

When you think of the fall season, what do you think of? You think of leaves changing colors, carmel apples, pumpkins, trick or treating and of course hayrides. One of the best hayrides you’ll experience is Sandyland Acres Haunted Hayride in Petersburg, Kentucky.
This year Sandyland Acres celebrates its 10th anniversary. I can still remember the first time we toured the hayride. This haunt has evolved greatly over the years and has become quite popular. It was packed the night we showed up and people seemed to be having a blast. A large silo shoots flames from its top and a crazy clown stalks the crowd as you wait.
Mortimer Sneed welcomes you to this year’s hayride. You become part of the movies at Sandyland Acres. This is an intense hayride where movie monsters are out for blood. Jason Voorhees strikes the wagon with his big machete and Michael Myers is ready to slice you up. The largest addition to the haunt is the pirate ship which has a loud surprise. There are a few other changes like the new Lizzie Borden scene which we enjoyed. The infamous killer murdered her father and stepmother with an ax and she’s ready to take your life as well.
Sandyland Acres Haunted Hayride has the best Headless Horseman we’ve seen and some of the craziest vehicle chases you’re going to encounter. The flaming truck chase was pretty badass and quite intense. The encounter with the Creeper from Jeepers Creepers was also very memorable.
The majority of the scenes were pretty effective. A few fell flat like Motel Hell and the killer Santa scene. I did appreciate the little details like the plastic Christmas blow mold decorations and snow machine. But I just thought that there could have been a better final scene to end the hayride. The entire experience is about 25 minutes long. We suggest that you get a seat at the back of the hay wagon so you’re up close and personal to the chase scenes. Some of the actors are large in size which makes certain characters quite intimidating.
Farmers Revenge is Sandyland Acres’ version of a haunted house. You’ll notice right away that this isn’t the same haunt from last year. It begins with a video that tells the story of an angry farmer who wants revenge on those who dare to trespass on his sacred land. The video lasts a few minutes before you’re allowed to enter the haunt.
Farmers Revenge is an old school haunt where you’ll experience a variety of scenes and you’ll meet a few horror movie villains. The dark maze isn’t too difficult, but it’s pretty creepy. One of the new additions is the Hellevator which takes you straight to hell. I thought it was pretty unique how the claustrophobia tunnel was illuminated with red lighting. I felt like I was entering the pits of Hell.
It’s a fun haunt with traditional scenes such as a forest with a werewolf, a clown house and lots more. They even have a spinning vortex tunnel. Some rooms could use a little work. Frankenstein’s Laboratory could be more realistic and dramatic. Farmers Revenge lasts around 7 minutes and it’s $10 a person.
Sandyland Acres has some of the best concessions of any haunt we’ve been to. Aunt Susie’s Haunted Kitchen sells funnel cakes, pumpkin muffins, hot dogs, drinks and much more. If you enjoy Kettle Corn like I do then you’re in for a real treat. The Little Red Barn Kettle Corn booth offers good ole Kettle Corn that is delicious. The Spooky Gift Shop is where you can buy some Halloween crafts, Sandyland Acres T-Shirts and more. I still own my jewelry coffin box I purchased years ago. There are also fun glow items available. Tickets to the Hayride are $12 and VIP tickets are $15. The extra three bucks is well worth it when you don’t have to wait in a long line. Farmers Revenge is $10 a ticket and a combo ticket is $20.
Sandyland Acres Haunted Hayride & Farmers Revenge are two haunts that compliment each other quite well and represent what the Halloween spirit is all about.
