“Monsters and Mayhem”

Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse takes place in a schoolhouse that dates back to 1924. It’s supposedly haunted and you’ll soon find out if the rumors are true. Experience 3 of horror where you’ll be left running in terror.

Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse is full of impressive scenes and some unique scares. I definitely wasn’t expecting to be peed on by a clown or have a pregnant woman spray water on me. Other scenes include a room full of killer babies, a laboratory, a spider’s lair and more. The actor inside a cocoon was nice touch and it reminded me of The Fly from 1958 as she cried for help. You’ll notice original artwork as you walk through the haunt. This includes Elvira, Vincent Price and more.

Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse features 2 laser swamps, one green and the other blue. What sets them apart is that they’re mazes where you need to find your way out. You’ll find plenty of static and animated props. You’ll see a large UFO, a massive wild boar actormatronic that attacks you from the side, a Frankenstein Monster and much more. There are also quite a few grotesque props including a lamp made from a severed head and a wet floor sign with an attached cut off face.

The Contagian Industries section of Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse is darker and more sinister than the rest of the haunt. I felt like I was entering a scene from Stranger Things at a certain point. Mochican Haunted Schoolhouse features multiple themed areas. This includes Dead & Breakfast, Carnevil, Contagian Industries and Slaughterville. Slaughterville is the least impressive section of the haunt. Additional actors and less reliance on chainsaws would definitely improve it.

The actors are good for the most part. A standout character is the vampire who kept talking about the pitter patter of my heart. She was very convincing. The nurse in the queue line did a great job as well. We definitely weren’t expecting to see a guy in a speedo wearing a wild boar mask. He didn’t use any meaningful dialogue, but he was somewhat surprising none the least.

Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse does a great job with its music and sound effects. Sound effects include crying babies, laboratory sounds, monster growls, a man stuck in a bathroom and more. We appreciated that they were trying to make the scenes more immersive with scary sounds and music. It’s obvious that the staff loves what they’re doing.

When you arrive, you’ll enter the gym to purchase your tickets. The gym is decorated with a large skeleton, an inferno pumpkin skeleton, a witch, laser lights, a Vincent Price horror movie being played and much more. This is one of the best queue line areas we’ve seen all season. It’s easier to pass the time while waiting when there’s so much to look at.

Tickets are $30 ($24 online) and a Fast Pass is $40 ($34 online). Group rate for 15 or more people is $21 per person and only available online. Tour of Tales takes place on October 30th from 6pm-9pm. It’s a guided tour where your ghostly hosts will reveal the nightmares contained within the haunted halls. There are no actors, but everything else is running. Tickets are $20 and in person only. Heroes Night is on November 5th and First Responders and Military get in for only $20 with valid ID. Portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Ashland Shop With a Cop fund. The Holiday Horror Show is December 10th from 7-10pm. General Admission is $22 online ($25 At Gates) and a Fast Pass is $32 online ($35 At Gates).

This is a very safe haunt. You’ll enter a metal detector when you arrive. There are concessions available including french fries, chicken tenders, cheese sticks, hot dogs, shrimp and more. When you exit the haunt you’ll enter their gift shop which offers T-Shirts, hoodies, beanies, jewelry and much more.

Total tour time was 37 minutes which makes it one of the longest haunts we tour. There’s so much to look at and experience at Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse. It’s fun, frightening and very memorable. We definitely recommend that you pay them a visit this Halloween season.
