Industrial Nightmare Complex 2010 Review

Industrial Nightmare Complex
The Industrial Nightmare Complex consists of 3 haunts, Industrial Nightmare, Dementions and Pitch Black featuring The Cage Maze. These are all quality haunts with at least something most people will like. The night we visited, the crowd wasn’t massive because of other events going on in the area. Either way we were ready to experience the haunts at this year’s Industrial Nightmare Complex.

Industrial Nightmare-“A Factory of Fear”
Genre: Haunted House
Location:  835 Spring St.
Jeffersonville, IN 47130
Runtime: 15 min
Website: www.hauntednetwork.com

Industrial Nightmare is one of those haunts that is a great example of what a haunt can accomplish with hard work and creativity. Yeah, there are improvements that can be made, but overall it’s a fantastic attraction in almost every way.

This is City Blood’s 2010 review of Industrial Nightmare.

What’s Good About This Haunt?
Industrial Nightmare doesn’t stick to just one theme. You’ll come across a variety of scenes that range from classic horror movies to scenes that will simply shock you. New this year is the zombie strip club featuring a dead stripper, a chair that comes alive and a half dead exotic dancer working the poll. It’s not scary, but it’s sure entertaining.

There haven’t been a lot of new scenes added to this year’s Industrial Nightmare, but there are a lot of favorites that have returned for 2010. The first scene you’ll enter features a large Gargoyle that appears to be a prop until suddenly it springs to life. This lifelike costume the actor wears is from Distorions Unlimited. Many haunts have movie inspired scenes, but don’t put much effort into them. This isn’t the case with Industrial Nightmare. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported into classic horror movies like Friday The 13th, Halloween and others. Camp Crystal features a lifelike cabin while Freddy’s boiler room features sparks flying off Freddy’s claws as he hits the cage in front of him.

Industrial Nightmare is called Industrial Nightmare for a reason. While much of Industrial Nightmare used to be themed after a nuclear wasteland, there are still a few scenes left that reflect that. One of the most notable is the nuclear spill scene. You’ll walk over a bridge/catwalk where below you is a massive mutant creature surrounded by barrels and nuclear waste. It’s truly a show stopper. Another scene that somewhat reflects the nuclear wasteland theme is the walk through swamp. You’ll walk down a ramp when suddenly you are consumed by massive black airbags (Oak Island custom Claustrophobia Tunnel) on both sides of you as a green laser blinds you. This scenes simulates drowning in a murky swamp. It’s very effective and few haunts can create this scene as good as Industrial Nightmare does.

Other scenes include a morgue with vault doors, a shrinking hallway straight out of Willy Wonka, an outdoor encounter with a water spitting troll and more. There’s a lot of variety at Industrial Nightmare.

What’s Bad About The Haunt?
The major downfall of Industrial Nightmare is its use of black walls in between detailed scenes. You’ll walk through an impressive room and then afterwards walk through a hallway that is almost pitch black without anything going on. These mediocre areas need to be filled with props and plenty of detail so the rooms seamlessly blend together. There shouldn’t be a lot of down time in between rooms.

There are also a few rooms that just don’t have that big of an impact. This is the case with the chain link room near the end of Industrial Nightmare. It’s just not very scary and pales in comparison to a lot of the scenes at Industrial Nightmare. The wooded cornfield area could also be improved as well. It’s too dark and needs more dynamic lighting to really bring it to life. The actors at Industrial Nightmare are intense in nature, but they need to use more memorable dialogue instead of resorting to using weapons or banging on walls.

Industrial Nightmare has some incredible decor like a massive mutant creature and Gore Galore’s Troll Creature Crate that spits water. But some new props should be added to the haunt to make it fresh and new. Possibly some type of CGI animatronic from Pale Night Productions would help add a wow factor to a couple rooms that need it.

Customer Service:
Industrial Nightmare has stepped up its concessions this year. For 2010 they’ve added a beer station that features an impressive animated sign. Also new this year is a photo booth where you can get your picture taken at the first haunt for $5 and get an additional copy for $2. There are also plenty of snacks and goodies available.

$18 is high for a 15 minute haunt, but Dementions is also included in this price. So you are only really paying $9 per haunt. For only $26 you can purchase a combo ticket where you’ll be able to tour all haunts at The Industrial Nightmare Complex. Make sure to visit their website for various discounts.

Final Thoughts:
Industrial Nightmare is one of the best haunts the Hoosier State has to offer. It has an amazing amount of dynamic animatronics and innovative scares you don’t see everywhere. There haven’t been massive changes made for the 2010 season, but this is still a frightful haunt with a great bunch of actors. Head out to Jeffersonville, Indiana this Halloween season for the classic, Industrial Nightmare.

Dementions-“The Mind of a Psychopath”
Genre: Haunted House
Location:  835 Spring St.
Jeffersonville, IN 47130
Runtime: 15 min

There are many things of this earth that are considered quite demented. We try to forget about the evil and enjoy the good that makes the world great. Are you ready to experience some sick and twisted freaks while exploring some frightening rooms?

This is City Blood’s 2010 review of Dementions.

What’s Good About The Haunt?
Dementions has some innovative scares that you won’t find at any other haunt. Where else can you enter a fog filled elevator that shakes violently as lights flash on and off before coming face to face with Saw’s Jigsaw. Where else can you watch a nude woman behind a shower curtain before getting a shocking surprise? There are many scenes in Dementions that are out of the ordinary and are one of a kind. Scenes involve a massive serial killer who has murdered Santa inside a room decorated for Christmas, a hallway full of skletons with flashing red LED eyes, a violent chainsaw maze, an outdoor area that leads to a large Scarefactory Scissor Serpent and everything that is well, demented.

There are many elements that are taken straight from The Haunted Hotel from Dementions’ intense actors to the way a few rooms are blood splattered and as gory as can be.

What’s Bad About The Haunt?
There’s not much Dementions needs to work on except for a few areas. Just like with Industrial Nightmare, there are too many black walls in between major scenes. There needs to be a better flow between each scene. The outdoor portion of Dementions could also be improved. A major issue I have is that the Scissor Serpent rises too slowly and just doesn’t belong. A good replacement for this animatronic would be Scarefactory’s Pumpkin King. It’s similar to the Scissor Serpent except that it’s much quicker and an overall better looking prop. The actors are very similar to the ones you’ll find in Industrial Nightmare. They’re intense, relentless and won’t stop until you’re scared. They could still use more dialogue.

Customer Service:
There are plenty of concessions available at The Industrial Nightmare Complex from snacks, water and more. New this year is a photo station where you can get your picture taken for $5 and pay only $2 for a second copy. Beer is also available this year at their beer station.

Dementions is free with admission to Industrial Nightmare. So for $18 you get two quality haunts. You’ll have a hard time finding a better deal.

Final Thoughts:
Dementions is a one of a kind haunt with one of a kind scenes. It’s intense like all the other haunts that are part of The Haunted Network. It’s also one of the best haunts in Indiana. Don’t miss out on the scary experience you’ll have at Dementions at The Industrial Nightmare Complex.

Pitch Black-“Consumed By Darkness”
Genre: Dark Maze
Location:  835 Spring St.
Jeffersonville, IN 47130
Runtime: Varies
Website: www.hauntednetwork.com

Pitch Black is possibly the most confusing dark maze in the haunt industry today. It’s massive and has so many twists, turns and dead ends. You better hope to God that the person you’re with is an expert at mazes or you may be stuck in Pitch Black all night long.

This is City Blood’s 2010 review of Pitch Black.

What’s Good About The Haunt?
Pitch Black is a very difficult dark maze. If it’s your first time touring the haunt, you may be in there for quite some time. There are actors scattered throughout the haunt and are ready to scare whoever comes in their path. After you exit Pitch Black you’ll enter The Cage Maze. Various actors will point you in the wrong direction as you try to make it out alive in one piece. You’ll love Pitch Black if you’re a fan of classic dark mazes.

What’s Bad About The Haunt?
Pitch Black is basically an oversized dark maze. There’s nothing really innovative or surprising about this haunt and at times it can be a little frustrating. The Cage Maze portion of Pitch black also leaves a lot to be desired. It’s essentially a steel maze with a lot of fog and a few actors trying to misdirect you. Next year Pitch Black will be replaced with a brand new haunt called “Carnevil”. It will be interesting to see Industrial Nightmare’s take on a clown themed haunt.

Customer Service:
Industrial Nightmare has a wide variety of food and drinks that you’ll enjoy. New this year is a beer station where popular music plays and you can purchase a cold one. We were surprised how dead it was over there, but I’m sure this concept will catch on. No other haunt in the Louisville area is doing this as far as I know. Also new this year is a photo booth. Before entering the first haunt, you’ll be asked to pose and take a picture. For only $5 you can buy yourself a copy and for two additional dollars you can buy a second. At the back of Industrial Nightmare there are plenty of port a potties in case nature calls. You’ll notice that there’s always staff near by making sure everything is running right.

For only $26 you can experience Industrial Nightmare, Dementions and Pitch Black. That’s a great deal for a lot of time spent at one place.

Unfortunately the price for just Pitch Black is $16 which is a little hard to swallow. That’s a a pretty high price for a dark maze. Please don’t forget to visit their website for a $2 off coupon for Thursdays and Sundays.

Final Thoughts:
Pitch Black is my least favorite of the haunts at the Industrial Nightmare Complex. It was fun the first year it debuted, but since then there have been very few changes made over the years. If you have a fear of the dark, then Pitch Black will be a good experience for you. You can face your fears head on.

Please Note that props are not factored into the overall score because most dark mazes don’t have them. Also remember that the time you’re in a dark maze depends on the person.
