Hauntville (Elyria, OH)
“Elyria’s Mind Blowing Haunted Attraction”
By Noah Wullkotte: Jollypumpkin@aol.com

Hauntville is Elyria, Ohio’s mind blowing haunted attraction. This large event is made up of 5 different haunts that will have you jumping out of your skin and staring in disbelief.  Over the years, Hauntville has become one of our favorites. We enjoy everything this place has to offer, but we are always most impressed by Wicked Clowns in 4D. Its Ohio’s first 4D Haunt.

Wicked Clowns is a haunted wonderland where 3D objects and paintings come to life with help from 3D glasses. There are many things you’ll see at Wicked Clowns in 4D that you won’t see at many haunts. It’s very interactive and your sense of smell, touch and sight are tested.

This haunt is obviously themed after clowns, the circus and the carnival. So if you have a fear of clowns (aka Coulrophobia) then you better head for the hills. The floor tilts from the weight of your body and you’ll spin around and around in the moving jack in the box. Some scenes have disgusting smells. The toilet room features plungers hanging from the ceiling and different sized toilets. A clown hides in the largest one and the room smells like human feces.

Wicked Clowns in 4D knows how to stick to a theme and they do it well. If you enjoy the sweet taste of ice cream then you’ll love walking inside Hauntville’s Ice cream truck. Cover your ears because the horn might go off without warning. Wicked Clowns capitalizes on everything that’s related to clowns. The clown hall of fame is full of famous clown portraits that decorate the wall. My favorite is of course Bozo the Clown.

Some snakes are large, but the one Hauntville has is massive and it will attack. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Wicked Clowns in 4D is simply sensational. If you were never a huge fan of 3D haunts or clowned themed attractions then Wicked Clowns will definitely change your mind. It’s one of the most thrilling 3D adventures you’ll have.

The other haunts at Hauntville include Cell Block 13, Psycho Manor and The Butcher Barn. Cell Block 13 is the first attraction you’ll experience at Hauntville. It’s a dark haunt where you’ll first get your head shot taken before meeting the warden. Explore the cells of this maximum security prison from Hell. Escape through a bathroom stall and watch a live execution unfold. A convicted criminal sits in an electric chair as he fries like a piece of bacon. A chained up prisoner thrashes up and down as he’s chained to a table.

This is my least favorite attraction at Hauntville due to its design. There’s just so much you can do with the prison theme before the scenes start looking very similar. It’s not a bad attraction by any means. There could just be more detail and creative scenes. We were caught off guard by the hang man that was thrown at us and some of the actors are pretty crazy. One wanted to eat us whole as she stared at us behind bars.

The Butcher Barn is a backwoods farm with inbred hillbillies and cannibal country folk. If The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes had a baby then you would get The Butcher Barn. This is a fun haunt with some interactive elements. Most notably is the outhouse that actually moves after you take a seat. It’s one hell of a stinky ride. You better hold on to your butt. The Butcher Barn has about any type of room that would be found at a sick and depraved farm. You’ve got your chicken coop, meat locker, a hillbilly shack and so much more. At the Butcher Barn you’ll learn about the Wilton Family who hates city folk and will do anything to keep them out.

Last, but certainly not least is Psycho Manor. Enter the town’s funeral home where they’re ready to bury you alive. Pick out your own casket and explore the haunted halls of this Victorian mansion. This is a very spooky haunt. A haunted bedroom features a woman whose head spins around. A funeral wake is taking place and the dead isn’t quite dead. The corpse of an old woman flies down the stairs and a room is full of creepy dolls with glowing eyes. This is a traditional themed haunt in the way it’s designed and there are many scenes to satisfy your sick appetite. It’s our second favorite haunt at Hauntville.

After you’re done touring the haunts, you can grab yourself a paintball gun and take your aggressions out on the living dead at Zombie Hunt Paintball in 3D. This is a fun side attraction that’s included in Package 1 and the VIP All Access Pass. It took us nearly 30 minutes to explore all the attractions at Hauntville. Zombie Hunt Paintball is not included in the tour time.  Tickets are $24 a piece for Package 1 which includes every attraction. Package 2 is $20 and includes all attractions except for Zombie Hunt Paintball. Skip the lines and get access to all attractions for $35 with a VIP All Access Pass.

Hauntville is a good value for the quality of haunts you’ll experience and we can’t say enough about Wicked Clowns in 4-D. You owe it to yourself to check out what Hauntville has to offer in the way of thrills and chills.
