The Devil’s Attic (Louisville, KY)
“Are You Naughty or Nice?”
By Noah Wullkotte: jollypumpkin@aol.com
The Devil’s Attic welcomes you to Hell on earth. This sick and sadistic haunt focuses on popular horror movies, horrific creatures, scary legends and more. This is one of our favorite attractions in the Bluegrass state. It takes a hold of you by your soul and doesn’t let go till the bitter end. The Devil’s Attic is a very theatrical haunt with amazing costumes and makeup design. You’ll encounter various monsters like vampires that want to suck your blood and make a meal out of you. Don’t you dare stare at Medusa or your flesh will be turned into stone. The legendary Bloody Mary loves to bathe in blood. Say her name three times or else. Was that a vicious werewolf that just ran at me?
Frankenstein’s Monster will invade your space as he magically comes to life. The mad doctor loves to play God. The characters are up close in personal at The Devil’s Attic. New this year is the Silent Night Deadly reenactment. Billy Chapman will decide whose naughty as he hits the wall with his sharp axe. Christmas scenes are always unexpected and this scene was no different.
It’s quite obvious that the makers of The Devil’s Attic are true horror movie buffs and there are plenty of fright flicks you’ll encounter. Give Uncle Frank a little kiss as you survive the Hellraiser scene. Grandpa gets closer and closer in the Texas Chain Saw Massacre scene while he attempts to put a mask made of skin on your face. You better not ask Franklin what his sister’s name is or you’ll be attacked by the one and only Leatherface.
The Devil’s Attic is relentless. The actors emerge out of the darkness and hide in spots you would never expect. It’s a very theatrical experience and the characters don’t let up for one second. The most energetic character has to be the priest in the Exorcist scene. The power of Christ compels you.
The lighting is beautiful as well. Watch as a witch is burned at the stake. CO2 Fog shoots up in the air to simulate smoke and fire. You’ll notice that there are different color LED Lights throughout the haunt. There’s red, blue, orange, green and more. Something is hiding in the swamp and it’s ready to snatch you up. There’s even lightning that makes the haunt very realistic. This is a very spooky haunt to say the least. The masks are some of the best around. My favorite mask is of course the one that The Devil wears.
The Devil’s Attic has some very nasty eye candy. The Human Centipede scene is something else. There are little details here and there that I appreciate immensely. The Silent Night Deadly room includes a woman being impaled by deer antlers. The Santa Blow Mold gives off a holiday glow. Some of the props inside this classic haunt will attack. Get ready to run! Total tour time was 15 minutes, but this depends on how much the characters interact with you. There are no dead spots. This is a very action packed experience that’s blood curdling and hair raising.
General admission is $25 per victim and $35 for a Speed pass so you can skip the line. Click here to sign up for a $2 off coupon. Save $2 when you bring 2 canned goods. Parking is free. There’s a merchandise trailer (AKA Devilish Goods) that sells The Devil’s Attic beanies, T-Shirts, Hoodies, shot glasses and more. Your photo was taken before entering the haunt. It’s $10 for one or $15 for two photos. The outside of The Devil’s Attic looks a little different this year. You’ll notice that they’re using a holographic projector/fan to project scary images in front of a blue specter. It’s a simple effect, but very cool.
The Devil’s Attic has been scaring fright seekers for 16 seasons and there’s no sign of them slowing down. It’s theatrical, scary and a damn good time.
