Black Orchard Haunted House (Shelbyville, KY)
“Brothers Stitch and Theodore Black’s Nightmare”
By Noah Wullkotte: jollypumpkin@aol.com
Brothers Stitch and Theodore Black now have control of the family business Black Orchard Meats. Black Orchard Haunted House is a very interactive haunt. Some of the actors will touch you, but they don’t take it too far. Meet Mamma Black who marked me with blood. She placed it on my nose and mentioned how I looked like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Mamma was worried that I might have rabies. I was forced to get on the scale so she could weigh me. Mamma has special names for her slabs of meat and I looked awful appetizing to her.
Tommy does a good job folding clothes and you better help out or else. Grandma would be very proud. You’ll need to wash your hands in the washroom and you’ll then be on your way. There are plenty of chainsaw maniacs at Black Orchard Haunted House. They’re intense and love to rub their gas powered murder weapons against your skin.
Black Orchard Haunted House is full of menacing props that will invade your space. A massive demon goat wants to take a bite. Get out of the way or you’ll be gobbled up. A mutant rat busts out of the wall. Some characters have their unique ways of scaring customers. The chainsaw maniac with a massive gas powered chainsaw made us jump out of our skin. The spinning saw blades coming out of the wall was very cool. They look sharp, but they aren’t.
This is a dark and eerie haunt with some interesting characters you’ll come in contact with. A crazed woman speaks to a grotesque corpse she calls Heather. She wants to know if Heather is beautiful or not. A tormented man in a dress wants you to become a chicken in the chicken coop. A woman has a great collection of boots and shoes. Maybe you would like to add to her collection. There are plenty of horrific masks like a deranged bunny rabbit, human skin, a pig and more. Black Orchard Haunted House has an outside section and then you enter the barn.
The outside section is fun and has been improved this season. We wish there were more detailed scenes like there are inside the attraction, but the acting is great none the less. It’s quite interactive. Certain parts of Black Orchard Haunted House are dark and foggy. The creepy factor is through the roof. Black Orchard has the finest meats and you’ll meet the Black Family who fears the FDA.
This is a very detailed haunt that knows how to stick to a theme. There are fish, body bags, a crashed truck, license plates, hanging meat, photographs, and much more. We felt like we just entered a sick world of backwoods hillbillies and there was no turning back. It’s menacing meat market and you’re on the menu. The lighting is great. There’s blue, red, green and other colors that illuminate scenes. Sparks will fly at Black Orchard Haunted House.
Total tour time was around 22 minutes, but could be longer depending on your interaction with the various characters. This year’s haunt was a couple minute’s longer than last season’s. General admission is $25, Fast Pass is $40 and Front of the Line is $60. Black Orchard Haunted House uses timed ticketing, but you can still purchase tickets onsite. Don’t miss out on their Black X-Mas event on December 13th and 14th. It’s open from 8PM-12AM both days. Relive your favorite X-Mas classics like never before.
Black Orchard Haunted House is a realistic experience unlike any in the area. It’s intense, interactive and simply fun. We definitely recommend that you pay them a visit this Halloween season. Come see what’s in the barn. There are things you’ll see that are beyond your imagination and where nightmares are born.
