Black Orchard Haunted House (Shelbyville, KY)
“Here Piggy Piggy”
By Noah Wullkotte: jollypumpkin@aol.com
The word of the day is fratricide. It’s the act of killing one’s own brother. Black Orchard Haunted House is an interactive and immersive horror experience you won’t soon forget. You’ll be greeted by the craziest back woods killers that call Shelbyville, Kentucky their home. Black Orchard Meats has the finest meats and they have a secret ingredient. It’s human flesh. You’ll come across some interesting characters like Mamma Black. She holds the skull of her dear husband who she murdered years ago.
Black Orchard Haunted House is very theatrical and actor driven. The actors will touch you, but they don’t overdo it. Wash your hands with a wash cloth or you won’t be allowed to exit the scene. The chainsaw maniacs are extreme. They’ll rub their gas powered murder weapons across your skin. Smell the gas fumes and feel the vibration. Not only are the actors up close and personal, so are the props. I was attacked numerous times by some type of creature. This included a massive goat head, a killer rat and more. Spinning blades bust out of the wall and a psychopath with the largest chainsaw you’ve ever seen lunged at us as we tried to escape with our heads still attached. You’ll be lucky if you survive Black Orchard Haunted House without being branded.
Some of the actors wear grotesque masks. One was wearing his victim’s face and wanted to peel off our skin. Another wore a possum mask where he proceeded to play dead or what’s better known as playing possum. You’ll experience various scenes that will shock and horrify you. A chicken coop features a crazed girl who wants you to take a bite of one of her feathered friends. A freak of nature is seen in the laundry room where mamma left him. A woman holds a pot full of gooey goodness. I wasn’t sure if it was guts or something else. A poor soul had her legs removed with one of the bones exposed. This is a nasty looking prop. Watch out because sparks fly at Black Orchard Haunted House.
The outside area has been improved since last season. It’s more intense and the actors do a better job. This isn’t a haunt that relies solely on jump scares. It’s in your face terror from the moment you arrive. It’s a very unnerving experience where you’re scared to turn the corner. They yelled here piggy piggy as I narrowly escaped. You’ll soon discover what’s in the barn and what makes Black Orchard Meats so unique. I felt used and abused after I was done. This is a very detailed haunt that sticks to its theme no matter what. The barn is dark, dingy and disturbing. It’s a must see haunt and should be near the top of your list of places to visit this Halloween season.
Total tour time was 20 minutes, but it could be longer depending on how long the characters interact with you. It also depends on how slow you walk or how fast you run. A movie played on the projector screen as we waited in line. Various actors tormented the crowd. General admission is $25, $40 for Fast Pass and $60 for Front of the Line. Parking is free. Merchandise is available such as T-Shirts, stickers and more. There’s a photo op station after you exit the haunt.
Porky Claus and the gang are taking over Caulfield’s Novelties on December 6th & 7th for their first-ever Nightmare on Main Street event! Black Orchard Haunted House will have a Christmas event this season called Black Xmas. It will be held on December 12th and 13th. Please visit www.blackorchardhauntedhouse.com for more information on the haunt and its detailed backstory. Black Orchard Haunted House has really stepped up this season. It’s better than ever and scary to say the least. I truly felt a sense of dread as I wondered through the barn and the outside is something else.
