American Horrorplex 2023 Review

American Horrorplex (Louisville, KY)
“Insanity Personified”
By Noah Wullkotte: jollypumpkin@aol.com

The weather was perfect for a night of fright and American Horrorplex would be our final haunt that evening. This is a very fun haunt because of its dedication to the hospital theme. The characters you’ll encounter are something else. When you enter the line, you’ll notice that there are 9 different stations at the Bracken-Hart Memorial Museum. There’s also music playing and a movie screen that shows horror movie clips, horror movie questions and information on the haunt. Different queue line actors roam the grounds and are ready to pounce. A patient choking a large chicken kept staring out me with an evil grin. We didn’t have to wait long before it was our turn to have our picture taken. We would eventually enter American Horrorplex a short while after.

American Horrorplex is a downright crazy haunt with patients that are insane beyond words. One kept asking me too poop because she wanted a little taste. The actors can be disgusting at times. Some are psychopaths and it makes sense as to why they would act bat shit crazy. Remember that it’s a hospital for the criminally insane. The Bracken-Hart Institute is full of twisted and demented actors. Nurse Bubbles is here to help. She’s tonight’s elevator attendant and you’re going up.

Lucian Tomes Jr. plays the curator. He tells the story of the Bracken-Hart Institute and the Nazi Super Soldier program known as Operation Paperclip. Suddenly something goes horribly wrong with the lighting. Participate in the execution of an inmate. Watch him fry and don’t let him get close to you or else. The graveyard is a very scary place at night. You might even see a dragon. Evil experiments are performed at the Bracken-Hart Institute. A gorilla has part of his head removed exposing the brain and more. A poor chimpanzee screams out in pain as he thrashes around in a hospital bed. The unruly patients are gassed to death and are you next?

Cleanliness isn’t at the forefront of the Bracken-Hart Institute. The kitchen is disgusting and an obese man is serving up curdled milk from his nipples. A patient carries a bed pan full of piss. Participate in the birth of a fleshlumpkin as the cute little baby is breached. Watch as it attacks the doctor. American Horrorplex is a very creative haunt with scenes that will put a smile on your face.

Enter what I refer to as the belly of the beast. It’s a massive creature with pulsating sacs and unspeakable sights. The boiler room is very toasty I must say. There are plenty of scenes that will make you wonder what the hell you just saw. The final scene at American Horrorplex is very different from anything I’ve experienced before. It took months to build and it’s truly a show stopper. The actor inside was very good as well. You’ll have to visit the haunt yourself to see what I’m talking about.

American Horrorplex is an action packed haunt where you can expect the unexpected. Total tour time was around 16 minutes which is slightly longer than last year. General Admission is $25, VIP is $45 and Front of the Line Admission is $65. Both VIP and Front of the Line Admission includes 5 boo bucks you can use towards side attractions, merchandise, and food! Invasive Surgery is a full-touch experience and it’s a $10 upgrade to your ticket.

For ten additional dollars you can record your experience using your cell phone and for five additional dollars you can just explore the Beer Garden/food area. American Horrorplex has a beer garden, a petting zoo, carnival games, escape rooms and various vendors. The fudge was delicious and the oddities booth creeped me out to no end. There are plenty of photo-op stations. The skeleton was my favorite.

When you exit the haunt you’ll enter their Halloween Shop area. You can buy American Horrorplex T-Shirts, tumblers, Halloween crafts, candy, drinks and much much more. There’s even a concessions booth you’ll notice after purchasing your tickets.

American Horrorplex is quickly becoming one of the best haunts in the Louisville area. It’s nerve wrecking, creative and you could spend the whole night there because of how much entertainment they offer. Don’t miss out visiting this haunt this Halloween season.
