Nightmare on Edgewood (Indianapoils, IN)
“Your Worst Fears Exploited”
By Noah Wullkotte: Jollypumpkin@aol.com

A grim reaper walks near the crowd as a man lets customers touch a Boa Constrictor that’s rapped around him. A film crew enters Nightmare on Edgewood and for good reason. This is quite possibly the most physical haunt we’ve ever been to. It’s intense to say the least.

Nightmare on Edgewood consists of 5 different themed attractions. This includes Hysteria, Old School Fright, Pandemonium, Schizophrenia and The Last Ride. We are going to talk about various scenes, but we’re not going to go into detail about which haunt they’re in except for one or two. We consider Nightmare on Edgewood one large attraction made up of different themed areas.

Nightmare on Edgewood will play on your deepest and darkest fears. New this year is Hysteria. Whatever you fear comes alive in this intense attraction. You’ll enter dark hallways, experience live snakes, insects, battle your worst nightmares and more. This is a crazy haunt where you’ll definitely get touched and the walls might even close in on you. Who doesn’t love stepping on cockroaches and hearing a loud crunch?

Nightmare on Edgewood is a very hands on haunt. I was picked up and placed on a table while actors tried to force severed body parts down my throat. In the Purge section, I was shoved up against a wall while having a machete placed against my throat. My nickname was Buttercup. It would make sense that the Purge section would be extreme since in the movie, crime is legal for 12 hours.

Nightmare on Edgewood is very unpredictable and we loved the Old School Fright attraction. You’ll meet horror movie legends like Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and more. The A Nightmare on Elm Street room is very unique because it features a bed that opens up and leads to steps you must walk down to exit the scene. Jason Voorhees is very intimidating as he gets in your face and blocks your path. The Michael Myers scene is pretty scary and features a unique effect that I’m not going to ruin. You’re just going to have to tour the haunt to find out.

Nightmare on Edgewood has it’s own coffin ride simulator called “The Last Ride”. Take your shoes off and lay down. You’re going to be taken to the cemetery and buried alive. You’ll experience intense scents, movement of the coffin and great audio. If you’ve experienced The Last Ride before then you’re not going to experience anything dramatically different. But Nightmare on Edgewood’s version is more intense because you’re thrown around more in the coffin.

Nightmare on Edgewood had me looking both ways before entering a scene. I wasn’t sure what the next actor would do or what I was going to see. The actors do a great job with trying to intimidate customers and having them fear for their lives. In the back of my mind, I knew I was safe. But I was definitely ready for the next actor who might get a little hands on. You will crawl, escape through a car, and you’ll definitely be touched.

This is the most physical haunt I’ve ever experienced and one of the scariest as well. If you have a fear of clowns then you’re in luck. If you’re afraid of the dark then you’ve come to the right place. This is a very intense haunt. Tickets are $20 a piece. VIP tickets are $30 and this includes all attractions plus The Last Ride. You can add The Last Ride to a general admission ticket for $5. Click here for a $2 off coupon. We were in and out of Nightmare on Edgewood in around 25 minutes. I was worn out after I was done because of how physical this haunt can be. It’s a haunted experience like no other.
