Blackout 2009 Review

This will be the second year Blackout has been a haunt at Hanna Haunted Acres. But now it’s a stand alone attraction. Nothing much has changed with the exception of its facade which includes tons of creepy skulls. Changes need to be made to this haunt in order for it to stack up against the other haunts at Hanna Haunted Acres.
Length-5: Blackout is your standard dark maze and is extremely easy to find the exit. The actors even shine a light to help guide your way. You’ll be out within 5 minutes.
Design-5: This isn’t a well designed dark maze. It’s a nice attempt, but is just way to easy and there are very few dead ends or confusing routes. Blackout would be great if it was added on to another haunt, but it just isn’t great as a stand alone attraction.
Props/Animatronics-4: There really aren’t any props to speak of with the exception of heavy bags and air cannons. Shock Strips and a claustrophobia tunnel would improve the haunt greatly, but as it is, this haunt just needs more complexity.
Acting-2: There were probably 4 actors at the most. Many were up above throwing heavy bags at customers. This could be a much more intense haunt if more time was focused the acting aspect of it.
Scare Effect-5: If you have a fear of the dark, this can be a quite startling haunt. But most people may be more frustrated then satisfied after they exit.
Customer Service: Parking is free and everyone who works for Hanna Haunted Acres is friendly. There are plenty of concessions at the carnival booth. This includes funnel cakes, chips and food you would expect at a carnival.
Fright Value: $13 is way too high considering all the different options you have in the Indianapolis area as well as other haunts at Hanna Haunted Acres. For the best deal purchase a combo ticket for only $27 to experience all the haunts at Hanna Haunted Acres.
Final Stab-4.2: Blackout is a decent dark maze, but so much more could be done with it. The addition of shock strips, a claustrophobia tunnel, more props and more actors would make this haunt worth the price of admission.
