Pitch Black-"Get Lost In The Shadows"
Dark Mazes are a different breed of haunt since they rely mostly on darkness and how well you can find your way out. Some people hate them. Some people love them. And some people just have mixed feelings over the whole idea. I fall in the middle. It's fun trying to get through a maze while not being able to see a thing, but can become rather boring after a while. It may be fun your first year visiting, but doesn't warrant a second visit. But rather you like them or not, they are here to stay and have a devoted fan base.
Length-7: The amount of time spent inside Pitch Black depends on how good you are navigating through dark mazes. If you are skilled at this you may be out in 15 minutes or less. But if you are terrible at dark mazes like I am, then it could be quite longer. This can be a lengthy haunt, but there aren't enough eye catching scenes to keep your interest after you've seen the same wall over and over.
Design-6: This is a tough dark maze to try and escape. The course is confusing and after a while can be quite frustrating. Once you are out of the first portion of Pitch Black you are on your way to find your way out of their Cage Maze. It's fun, but not enough has been done to it to make it that interesting and much different from cage mazes other haunts offer. Having the first portion of pitch Black cut in half and replaced with interesting detailed scenes would make this haunt a nice addition to the Industrial Nightmare Complex. But as it is this haunt just isn't creative enough in terms of design. It has it's moments like when you are shocked from touching a wall containing shock strips, but these moments are few and far between.
Props/Animatronics-4: Pitch Black is absent of any props and once you've gone through Industrial Nightmare or Dementions it can be quite disappointing because of the lack of decor this haunt offers. It's obvious that the designers know what they are doing in the way of impressive high tech animatronics and to have those implemented some how into the maze would really make Pitch Black become more intense.
Acting-5: Pitch Black isn't full of intense actors like Dementions and Industrial Nightmare have and when you come face to face with an actor you'll be unable to see them. So it's easy to say that the majority of characters you'll encounter in Pitch Black aren't wearing elaborate costumes or fancy makeup and prost ethics. They are just there to yell at you as you make a wrong turn. More could be done in terms of acting.
Scare Effect-7: It can be quite unnerving walking in complete darkness and once you add other people into the mix it can be an intense experience like no other. Not knowing which way to go or where you are at the moment can panic some people and if you are separated from your group you may just freak out in the process.
Customer Service: The staff at The Industrial Nightmare Complex are very friendly and organized. The parking is free and the haunt itself is very easy to locate. The addition of more concessions would be appreciated though. But overall you will have a great experience and if you were to encounter a problem, the staff will be there to assist you in any way.
Fright Value: $15 is way overpriced for a haunt that is essentially a large dark maze combined with a short steel cage maze. There isn't enough variety and there is a lack of scenes and decorations to make Pitch Black worth the price of admission. Please make sure and spend $10 more for a combo ticket that will allow you to go through each haunt for a ticket price of $25.
Final Stab-5.8: Pitch Black is a good dark maze, but doesn't bring anything new to the table. When you compare this haunt to the rest of the attractions at the Industrial Nightmare Complex you will be sadly disappointed. Considering that this attraction is only $2 cheaper than Industrial Nightmare and Dementions combo ticket, you would expect much more instead of just a large dark maze with a steel cage maze thrown in for good measure. If you are big fan of dark mazes and trying to find the quickest way out of the darkness, then you will love Pitch Black. But as it stands it's just not worth the price of admission unless you purchase a combo ticket for $25. It's fun, but could be funner if scenes were implemented into the haunt as well as more actors roaming around.
